Cryptex DAO — New Governance UI: What You Need to Know

Hello Cryptex community!

We’re excited to share everything you need to know about the new governance experience for Cryptex DAO, now powered by Aragon. This post covers the full picture — from staking your CTX to participating in governance and claiming rewards — so that all keepers and community members can get up to speed before the rollout.

Why Aragon?

Founded in 2017, Aragon is one of the most trusted and battle-tested onchain governance providers in DeFi. Their frameworks secure tens of billions of dollars across leading protocols including Lido (stETH), Curve, Morpho, and Taiko. With over eight years of operation and zero security incidents, Aragon brings both the reliability and the modularity that Cryptex governance deserves.

Where to Find It

Cryptex’s governance, staking (veLocker), and rewards are all accessible from a single dedicated page:

1. Staking — The veLocker

The veLocker is where CTX holders lock their tokens to earn vote-escrowed CTX (veCTX), which is the source of both voting power and rewards.

How It Works

  • Stake CTX → Earn veCTX: Locking CTX into the veLocker gives you veCTX, which represents your governance weight within the DAO.

  • Voting power grows with commitment: The longer and more committed your stake, the more weight you carry — up to a 4x multiplier on both voting power and rewards.

    • Time to reach max multiplier: 98 days.
  • Minimum lock period: You must have your CTX staked for at least 30 days before you can begin the exit process.

  • Exit / Withdrawal: When you decide to exit, there is a 7-day waiting period. Your voting power is removed the moment you queue your exit, and your tokens become available for withdrawal after those 7 days.

Delegation

After staking, you must delegate your veCTX to activate it for governance — either to yourself or to a delegate (keeper) of your choosing.

  • Delegate profiles are automatically populated with ENS names and avatars.

  • Governance activity (voting history, proposals created) is visible on each delegate’s profile.

  • Coming soon: Custom bios and delegation statements directly in the Aragon UI.

:light_bulb: Important: Staking and delegation should be done before the first proposal is created, as the delegate snapshot is taken at proposal creation time.

2. Governance — Two Distinct Processes

Cryptex governance on Aragon runs two separate processes, each designed for a different type of decision.

Process 1 — Keeper Governance (CIP)

This is the primary governance path for general and significant decisions affecting the DAO.

Detail Value
Process Key CIP
Who can create proposals Any veCTX staker (and Core Team Safe members)
How it passes Requires an affirmative vote outcome by the end of the vote window
Vote duration 5 days
Support threshold 50%
Quorum 3% (500k veCTX)

Process 2 — Fast Track (CIPX)

This is a streamlined, optimistic path for routine or time-sensitive actions, such as core team funding and protocol upgrades.

Detail Value
Process Key CIPX
Who can create proposals Core Team multisig
How it passes Passes by default unless veto succeeds during the review window
Review (veto) window 3 days
Veto threshold 50% support + 1.5% quorum (250k veCTX) to succeed

:warning: Important design note: Keeper Governance (CIP) has root control over the DAO. This means veCTX stakers can always modify or remove the Fast Track process through a standard CIP proposal if it is ever misused or no longer needed.

Creating a Proposal

The new UI includes a guided proposal wizard that makes the process straightforward:

  • Set a title, summary, and body; add supporting links.

  • All proposal metadata is stored fully on IPFS for transparency and permanence.

  • Attach onchain actions to proposals using the action builder — build and bundle actions through a user-friendly interface, import JSON files, or connect external applications via WalletConnect.

  • Simulate actions using Tenderly before submitting, to verify everything works as intended.

3. Rewards

Rewards are claimed directly within the same Aragon UI, from a dedicated Rewards tab.

How Rewards Are Calculated

  • Rewards are computed offchain and distributed via a Merkle proof-based claim mechanism.

  • Your reward amount depends on:

    • Your veCTX voting power (higher commitment = higher multiplier = more rewards).

    • Whether your delegate participated in Keeper Governance (CIP) votes — YES, NO, and ABSTAIN all count.

  • Fast Track (CIPX) veto votes do not count toward rewards, intentionally, to avoid incentivizing veto behavior.

  • If there are no proposals in a given period, everyone receives full rewards for that period automatically.

Claiming

Rewards are claimed by signing an onchain transaction from the Rewards tab — simple and self-custodial.

Getting Started — Step by Step

  1. Connect your wallet at the Cryptex Aragon page.

  2. Stake your CTX in the veLocker.

  3. Delegate your veCTX to yourself or a keeper of your choice.

  4. Participate in governance by voting on CIP and CIPX proposals.

  5. Claim your rewards from the Rewards tab.

:pushpin: An initial test/ratification proposal will be used to validate the full staking and voting flow end-to-end in production. Participation in this ratification proposal will affect rewards, so make sure you are staked and delegated before it goes live.
